Hi all,
I see there is a beginning kicks course and then intermediate kicks course.

Is there such a progression of fist form to follow CHAIN FIST FORM | LIAN HUAN QUAN.

What course would that be?

Thank you.

Hello Lydie,

According to Shifu's curriculum Lian Huan Quan is the last course of the first (REN) level. Instructions for the second (DA) level have not been given yet, but having a look at the live lessons' order, I think that Tong Bei Quan should be the next fist form to learn. Before moving to the next level's form however, I would suggest to work with the Shaolin Intermediate Drills course if you haven't already to strengthen more your foundation.

Hope I helped,

See you at training!

Hello Lydie,

if you already have practiced all the basic kicks I would recommend the Xiao Hong Quan. But therefor only exist the live training recordings starting in the first week of march. In Xiao Hong Quan are a lot of basic kicks included that you would have practiced, if you did the basic kicks course. In Tong Bei Quan are a lot of more difficult kicks and jumping movements.

Hope that helps.

OK, Christoph's post makes sense. I have not worked Xiao Hong Quan so his opinion looks more reasonable. Forget what I wrote above 😁😁😁, I guess those who have worked both forms know better. I only insist on working on intermediate foundation movements first to get prepared for a more advanced form either Xiao Hong Quan or Tong Bei Quan.

Hi,
That's interesting about kicks, however it does not pertain to my question about FIST FORMS, which is the subject of the post.
what fist form after CHAIN FIST FORM

Is there a progression of fist form to follow CHAIN FIST FORM | LIAN HUAN QUAN. What course is that?

Hi Lydie,
I think you missunderstood something. Lian Huan Quan means in english something like Chain Fist.
Xiao Hong Quan means in english something like Small Flood Fist. Tong Bei Quan means in english Through the back Fist.
So our answers were all correct to your question. If you have done the chain fist form, you may have realized, that in that form are also some kicks included. Same is with Xiao Hong Quan and Tong Bei Quan. But both of them you could call a Fist Form.

Hope that helps,
Christoph

Hi Christophe and all kung fu friends,
Yes. Understood.  Thank you all for your clarifications.

My search is for progression focus learning --> fists, handwork, punches <---
(I've well understood what to do for course learning KICKS, beginning, advanced and am moving along)

Here are some FISTS forms :

1. learn first,... 4. learn later
Do you agree?
Which would you start with?

1. TONG BEI QUAN
2. XIN TIGER FIST
3. SHAOLIN QI GONG | ARHAT 18 HANDS
4. XIAO HONG QUAN

I hope I have made myself more clear.

Hi Lydie,

the Arhat 18 Hands is a Qi Gong form. That's a bit different to the other forms. But I would go ahead in one of those two ways:
1. Xiao Hong Quan
2. Arhat 18 Hands
3. Tong Bei Quan
4. Xin Tiger Fist

OR
1. Arhat 18 Hands
2. Xiao Hong Quan
3. Tong Bei Quan
4. Xin Tiger Fist

It depends on if you like to do a smooth and slow form first, then go first with the 18 Hands. If you like more powerful and fast movements, then go first with Xiao Hong Quan.

Warm regards,
Christoph

In terms of movement complexity/ difficulty I would probably put Xiao Hong Quan as the form to do after Lian Huan Quan. However it is quite long and as mentioned above is only in live class form at the moment. That's not necessarily a bad thing, depending on how you want to train. If you're happy doing full 45 min classes in a go, then definitely go for that; al the replays are available.

If you feel that smaller segments suit you more, then Tong Bei would be good as the structured video course is available.

Either one would be fine though. I advise you pick one and make it your focus for a while, before dabbling in something else.

Best of luck training, and do let us know if you have any more questions.
