Hey all.

I’ve got a question about foot position when you perform flic kicks. When you extend your lower leg to strike the target, what position should your foot be? It seems like with the other kicks, your foot position is similar to when you stretch - with your toes back or almost like trying to point them pack at yourself. However, it seems like with flic kicks the toes are pointing down. Or I should say, it’s like the foot position is similar to the raised leg in Jin Ji Du Li (Golden Rooster Stance) where the toes are pointing down and the area on the top of your foot is extended and kinda has more flat surface area. Anyway, when you are striking your target with a flick kick, what position should your striking foot be? It’s a little tough to tell from the videos because it goes too quick for me to catch. 🙂

Hi Brennan,

You should indeed be pointing your toes away from you as you suggest. That way you hit your target (opponent or hand) with the top of your foot not your toes. Especially when training barefoot that would hurt!

It's quite a common question. I always teach people to think of ballet's "good toes, bad toes". For flick kicks good toes are pointed like a ballet dancers!

The other kicks are hitting with different parts of the foot, so they don't have that problem.
